Sustainability

We don't just talk the talk

We also walk the walk. Sustainability is an important pillar of our laundry business and we're always looking for new ways to improve our offerings while reducing our impact.

  • Energy-efficient equipment

Our professional grade Electrolux equipment dispense and extract water efficiently, and dry effectively.

  • Planet-friendly laundry powder

We use laundry powder that's non-toxic and 100% biodegradable. It's made in the USA and comes to us in bulk via a closed-loop system with our manufacturer.

  • Skin-safe ingredients

Our laundry powder, brightening powder and stain solutions are safe for adults, children, babies and pets. No toxic or unnecessary ingredients!

  • Natural garment care solutions

We use vegetable soap, distilled white vinegar, reusable wool dryer balls and lavender essential oil to address stains, odor, static and requests for scent.

  • Four neatly knotted laundry bags in the morning light

    Reusable and compostable bags

We ask our customers to use reusable laundry bags so that we can avoid plastic waste. Small folded items are packed in compostable bags (as seen in this video).

  • A man wearing a navy t-shirt carries a bag of laundry over his shoulder

    Low impact laundry delivery

We serve pickup and delivery laundry orders by foot, bike and e-bike. Car deliveries are reserved for further distances and on-demand requests (powered by Uber).

  • Recyclable packaging and shipping materials

We use recyclable packaging and shipping materials for online orders, and donate a percentage of our product line sales to ocean cleanup and research via 1% for the Planet.

  • Low waste in our day-to-day

On site, we clean with alcohol, white vinegar and washable rags, avoiding single-use products like paper towels. We're also vigilant about recycling and composting.

  • Our philosophy of a "cleaner clean" translates into laundry that looks and feels better than ever, achieved without the use of harmful ingredients.

  • "Our mom was an early adopter of organic lifestyle. We still remember that very distinct, grainy smell of early day health food stores and organic food markets. Our childhood home, which our parents built, was constructed with non-toxic materials (coconut fiber insulation, cork flooring, zero VOC paint etc.), so quality and sustainability are values we were literally brought up with." - Corinna & Theresa Williams, sisters and co-founders of Celsious
