How to Care for Your Cozy Fleece Jackets

Since we like to layer up with fleece during the colder months, we jumped at the opportunity to share a fleece care guide with UNIQLO's audience (and with you too, of course)!

♻️ About recycled polyester fleece

UNIQLO's fleece is made from 100% recycled polyester yarn, with the zippers and small parts made from 98% recycled materials.

The process begins with used plastic products that are carefully sorted with the help of AI and high definition cameras. The sorted batch is rid of impurities and crushed into plastic flakes. Then it's made into a durable and dyeable fiber.

Master craftspeople brush the recycled fabric with fine needles to create fluffiness and warmth. An anti-pilling process is used to prevent breakage and loss of fluff.

You can watch the entire process on UNIQLO Masterpiece.

🫧 How to care for fleece in an eco-friendly way:

Step 1: Turn your jacket inside out

Once the garment is inside out, check the care label for any special instructions.

Step 2: Add a mild detergent

Use a mild biodegradable detergent. Follow the instructions on the container—don't use an excessive amount of detergent, which could leave residue in the fleece fabric.

Refrain from using fabric softener or chlorine bleach.

Step 3: Select a cold, gentle cycle

Select cold water and a gentle wash cycle. On your washing machine this might be the Delicate, Hand Wash or Wool cycle. Gentle cycles will reduce shedding, and it's best to wash with like colors too.

When washing your fleece with other items, make sure there isn't any exposed velcro before you press start, which could damage your fleece in the wash.

Step 4: Air dry your fleece

Air dry your jacket by laying it flat to dry or hang drying.
