TLC for your favorite sweatshirts
Sweatshirts are a year-round closet staple but we find them particularly useful when we're easing into (or out of) the cooler months.
Since more and more people are leaning into the athleisure look and investing in good quality cotton athleisure pieces, we're sharing a care guide so that you can keep your favorite sweatshirts in the rotation for many years to come!
Here's how to wash and dry your cotton sweatshirts:
๐ Step 1: Prep your load
Always sort light colored fabrics from dark colored fabrics and wash them separately. If necessary, use a natural stain stick or an oxygen brightener to pre-treat stains before washing.
๐ Step 2: Check the care labels
Cotton is a sturdy material that can generally be machine washed with an everyday detergent, but check your garment care labels just in case there's special instructions for your particular sweatshirt.
๐ Step 3: Machine wash on cold
Machine wash with cool temperatures to preserve the cotton fibers. Warm water is helpful if the garment is heavily soiled, but this can sometimes lead to shrinkage.
๐ Step 4: Tumble dry on low
Tumble dry with low heat or air dry to conserve energy.
Optional: Clean up pilling
For a pilling-free finish, use a fabric shaver to gently clean up the surface of the fabric. Focus on areas where a lot of friction occurs, like the arms and sides of the garment.
